hit a patch of ice and broke a bumper and dented a fender on a car i borrowed from a friend the day i forgot to bring my license, probably eventually effectively doubling my travel expenses for the entire year. (oops)

This sounds made up, but it really happened that when I met a guy for a first time (in a position of authority!) I returned his handshake firmly, and he noted "your hands are cold" and tucked my unwilling hand into his armpit, with the men and women standing around us all laughing. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
